Pacific Rendezvous

It was time for a break and the Pacific was calling.  It is at those times that I am so grateful for the vacation home we built 8 years ago.  The property was down in a gully covered by heavy-duty briars,  and I saw no possibilities for a future Rendezvous.  But hubby did, and since the Pacific Coast Hwy 101 was closed due to a landslide, and the business in Yachats was shrinking day by day, properties went for an affordable price.   So we built this small (1200 sq feet) two story home where friends and family have found a peaceful nest......

With the economy being what it is today, we realize that if it continues and the pocket book gets tighter and tighter.......well you know where I am heading....I can't say it out loud...so enough said......

In the meantime, it continues to be what it is, a wonderful get-away which offers a priceless, peaceful and rejuvenating  piece of life...
Looking across the bay in Yachats
Bald Eagle looking for its prey
And seagulls looking for a meal
Nice rows, boys and girls....

Autumn Colors in the NW

It was a morning of much variety..First a phone call from sis in Norway saying that our hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland is booked for the end of May 2011!  Good news.

Then, driving through the pouring down rain, I paid a visit to a very special little guy who loves to be held while mommy gets ready for the day..And this grandma was only too happy to be his friend..

Then, wanting more of Iceland, I headed to Barnes and Noble to pour through all the reading material I could find, of which there were only two paperback books.  (Not very many people travel to that Northern part of the world?). I bought them both and spent about an hour reading and enjoying much of what I will see this spring.  My swim suit has laid dorment for a long time, which seems like decades, so with all the hot springs in mind it will be the first thing I pack.
Then, with camera in hand, I took in the beauty of Autumn with its magnificant colors.  See for yourselves, aren't they dazzling?
The house
is one that has a somewhat scary appearance and can be found on River Road in Milwaukie, Oregon.  I pass by  frequently and I often wonder who lives there;  I think I need to pay them a visit one of these days.  Most of the time it gives me the impression that it is completely empty, but by Halloween it comes to life.  I wonder why?

It was a good morning..

The Miracle of Nhu!

Last Saturday was an extraordinary day.
Remembernhu.org, an organization focusing on protecting young girls in Cambodia, Thailand, India, Phillipines, and Mayanmar (Burma) from the sex slave industry,  presented an evening of awareness and the effects of this devastating invasion upon young girls' lives.  It became an evening filled with the horrifying truth of destroyed lives, yet it was transformed into an evening of hope and redemption. An unnamed guest was to be the highlight of the evening (I knew about it since I was on the committee) and there she was, Nhu of RememberNhu!!  Standing ovation and tears filled the room of about 300 guests as Nhu presented herself as the victim of the past, yet now as a redeemed human being; a victor of the present. She spoke in her haulting, yet beautiful English, of her black days in Phnom Phen when her grandmother sold her, at age 12,  into slavery... "Why God, why"  she cried as she was being raped repeatedly..

Nhu is a changed girl of 20 today and lives a life of freedom and victory in Phnom Phen, Cambodia where she manages a beauty salon.
These are the beautiful table decorations given to the table sponsors, of which husband and I were one.

$200,000.00 were raised during the few hours we were together in one room, under the covering of God's umbrella.

PJ's

OK  friends, kind of a funny thing to post, but I had to tell you all that I got new PJ's yesterday.
This is one area of my life that is NEVER current, yet I droole when I shop around and see these beautiful delicacies on the racks.
I had eyed this one for a while and sprung for it with vigor and excitement.  I had a coupon, plus an item I needed to return so I got a great price on an otherwise, a little too spendy, soft creation ( slinky material)...What do you think?
To me this is elegance because what I own is far less...
...and this is the present tense (yet outgoing) scary model of the green monster.

A Reunion of sorts..

The phone rang at 3pm yesterday afternoon and to my utter surprise and delight it was my friend, Signe (living in USA, but from my home town in Norway) who tells me they are in Portland and could they stop by?
Stop by? Of course you can, I can't wait to see you!!!
Well they came, all five of them, (all of the same family ) who I had not seen in years.
It was a delight, it was a joy, it was heartwarming and it brought tears to my eyes...
We shared, we laughed we ooohed and aaahed over each others pictures, and we reminisced about earlier times when we both had arrived from Norway as au'pairs...
Signe was my maid of honor and I was her maitron of honor in each others wedding.
After much fun in our home we ended up going to Olive Garden for dinner where we had yet another scrumptious time together.
Tears (from me) were shed when we said good-bye, but not to worry, we'll have another reunion in April of next year.

Summer/Autumn Beauty

"Oh Summer, I am glad you are holding on for a little while longer"

It's a Saturday Morning

It's a lazy Saturday morning
The sun is not out yet, but promises to be
Just like me

We have a ritual, hubby and I
Out for breakfast at a new place we try
Swedish pancakes oh my, oh my

Feeling full and satisfied
And with the sun shining bright
It's delightful to walk into the light
"Where to?", I ask Mr. James
As he puts the pedal to the metal
And is off like a howling kettle

Shall we do art, shall we do nature
Shall we do zoo with many a creature
Shall we do friends
As time us lends
No, we shall do colors that only autumn delivers
Especially since we're encircled by beautiful rivers

Mr. James knows the places
Of beauty and splendor
And I find myself asking for exceedingly more
More of creation, more of its brilliance
Much more of the Trinity's amazing alliance
Setting in motion a world from the smallest of core

I am loved I am grateful
I am needy, for sure
The beauty around me brings me a kind of cure
When rainy days come
Nothing changes
I am still loved and grateful
And needy, for sure
